TOKYO WONDERSITE RESIDENCY & EXHIBITIONS (2012)
I spent a March 2012 living and working at Tokyo Wondersite, exploring ideas around community after the 2011 tsunami. In response to this theme I created a collaborative work (last image below) with 5 other artists-in-residence - a space to play and explore with one another without the need for speech.
Once back in London I made Helmet and Wrist Piece for an exhibition at the Japanese embassy. These reflected on objects, materials and techniques I had seen there. All of these pieces also began to explore the meditative place of repetitive work, creating each bead by hand, and stringing the resulting artefacts together.
Wondersite was at the Japanese Embassy, London, in June 2012
